Cicada Sings

1990-97

The Bossa nova pop band Cicada Sings formed in the early underground scene of Atlanta, Ga.  Fatty (Bass) and Emile DeFelice (Guitar, Violin)  discovered Pam singing solo at The White Dot.  They recorded her in their home singing her songs and took the tape with them to Europe.  Her voice and songs became the soundtrack for an epic summer abroad.  On their return, Emile asked Pam to join the folk band they were putting together.  She was greeted at the door of their house by Fatty and, in that moment, she knew she had met her new best friend.  Fatty wrote songs and played guitar in the exact Bossa nova mode that Pam was looking for and so began Cicada Sings.

The band really came together when Rob Mallard returned from his European journeys and added his ballsy and distinct flute.  Fresh from LA came Jason and Nate Riddle and the wild, tumultuous Bossa nova began to form.

The next important confluence was the coffee house Homage Cafe that became their artistic home in downtown Atlanta, Ga.

They evolved from a seven piece band to a trio with trumpeter Thad Wilson.

They recorded three albums:

The first Self-Titled Tape

Lousy Private Fuzz was the second album and captured the era.  The last offering from Cicada Sings was recorded in Rob Mallard's Cabbagetown studio and is unreleased.
